South Manitou is perhaps the best natural deep harbor to be found anywhere. The white sand beach encompasses the entire harbor from Gull Point to Sandy Point. SMI hosts a lighthouse, Coast Guard station that can be toured with the Island Rangers in the summer months. The island also has one of the oldest virgin white cedar tree groves dating back to pre Columbus days. A fallen cedar had rings totalling more than 528. The wreck of the Francisco Morazan and Three Brothers can be seen from shore. South Manitou is a special place with a lot to do and see
