Accessible only by boat, West Grand Traverse Bay’s Power Island, off Bower’s Harbor on Old Mission Peninsula, is a 202 acre island featuring picnic facilities, restrooms and hiking trails. An island Ranger is the only summertime resident of Power Island and visitors populate this popular locals hangout on the weekends. Basset Island to the north once held a dance pavilion and ferry boats ran revelers out from Bowers Harbor on weekends for parties and celebrations. Look closely and you can still find the post foundations from this early 1900’s. Great beaches and points of interest offer a great way to spend a day or evening on the hook. Power Island is a good anchorage with protection from the north and southwest
